The HelpTips Archive is a Windows Help file archive of all the monthly Help Tip Of The Month articles that have ever appeared on WinHelp World (and that has been since the birth of this web site!). And all of those monthly tips and tricks articles for WinHelp were written by yours truly.
In a way, HelpTips is the follow-up to WinAPI 2 & 3, which you can also download from this web site. In HelpTips, I show you all sorts of hints, tips, tricks, workarounds, and issues facing RTF-based WinHelp authors.
While my initial intent was to keep publishing monthly (or periodic) updates to HelpTips, that effort became “frozen,” if you will, due to two factors. First, the source of new material became harder and harder to find, much less talk about. Second, after my divorce three years ago, my “spirit” for such activities kind of dried up and disappeared ... until just recently.
There are a couple of other items I would like to add to HelpTips, and I will if and when I get the time and energy to do so. When that happens, the updated file will appear HERE on this web site. So periodically check back here from time to time to be sure you have the latest copy and that you stay up to date.
In the meantime, feel free to download this complete archive. Also feel free to distribute it freely, as you see fit. Share it with your other WinHelp buddies. But above all, do download this file ... there’s something in there for virtually every WinHelp author. Some of the things you will find in there, are:
details on displaying 256 color graphics
how to work with and include multimedia elements in your WinHelp projects
how to simulate the Viewer style panes in your Windows Help files
how to add a CNT file to your WinHelp 3.1 files so that users of Windows 95/98 have the same familiar interface they’ve become accustomed to
how to remove the menu bar and button bar with custom macros registered from the Windows API
how to control the Help window style with custom macros registered from the Windows API
PLUS much, much more!
While much of this might sound like repeats of some of the topics in WinAPI 2 & 3 (and some of it is, sort of), the information in HelpTips is the most up-to-date and complete information that exists for the RTF-based WinHelp author.
So download your copy today. Who knows ... some of this information may just give you an edge over your “competition.”
