Asset coding much like part codification is a foible.
Obviously it needs to serve the purpose of identifying the asset, year/month of acquisition and grouping
 
The Asset codification scheme adopted follows the following pattern viz. For asset code E0007/R/0008 ---- [E] [YYMM] / [ division ] / [ serial no ]
 

Position	Data	Description of data
1	[E]	the type of asset E – Equipment, P - Plant and Machinery
2 to 5	[YYMM]	the year/month indicating the time of acquisition (YYMM)
6	separator	Separator
7 to 8	division	the division where the asset has been absorbed R - Rice Cooker, M - Mixie
9 to 12	serial no	the serial no of the asset
